Harm Scherpbier, MD

Dr. Harm Scherpbier is a physician, educator, and health IT strategist focused on the intersection of clinical practice, system design, and digital transformation. Originally trained in medicine in the Netherlands, he went on to earn a master’s in medical informatics from Erasmus University and has spent his career driving smarter, more human-centered healthcare technology.

Harm serves as Chief Medical Information Officer at HealthShare Exchange, advancing clinical and population health data-sharing across the Philadelphia region. He also teaches health informatics at Jefferson College of Population Health and advises companies on clinical system design, analytics, and implementation strategy. His previous roles span both provider and vendor worlds—including CMIO at Main Line Health and leadership positions at Siemens, Philips, Aetna, and eClinicalWorks—giving him a unique perspective on what it takes to build systems that work for clinicians, not against them.

A fellow of both HIMSS and AMIA, Harm remains deeply engaged in shaping the future of interoperability, informatics education, and next-generation care delivery. He lives outside Philadelphia with his wife and family, where they spend as much time outdoors as possible—camping, hiking, skiing, or just chasing sunlight.
