Harm Scherpbier

Dr. Harm Scherpbier, MD, MS, is a physician leader, health IT strategist, and author specializing in clinical system implementation, interoperability, and population health solutions. Originally trained in medicine at the University of Groningen and holding a master's degree in medical informatics from Erasmus University of Rotterdam, Dr. Scherpbier has spent decades bridging the gap between healthcare and technology. He serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for HealthShare Exchange (HSX)—the Philadelphia regional Health Information Exchange—and acts as a digital health strategy advisor for various healthcare providers and IT firms. His extensive background includes a prior tenure as CMIO at Main Line Health, engineering and product management roles at major health tech corporations like Siemens Health Services, eClinicalWorks, and Philips Wellcentive, as well as serving as an adjunct faculty member teaching health informatics at Thomas Jefferson University. A fellow of both HIMSS and AMIA, he is also the author of Unvendor: Innovative Healthcare with a Diverse IT Stack, where he advocates for modular, agile, and diverse healthcare IT ecosystems over single-vendor reliance.
