Healthcare has no shortage of innovative ideas. From artificial intelligence and connected devices to new approaches to clinical workflows, technology continues to promise a more efficient, connected and patient-centered healthcare experience.

But as we often discuss on Beyond the Blueprint, innovation isn't just about developing new technology. It's about making sure that technology solves real problems for the people who use it.

That's why we're especially pleased to congratulate our longtime podcast sponsor, Simplifi Medical, on earning Gold in the Medical Devices, Wearables & Health Hardware category of the 2026 Merit Tech Awards.

The recognition celebrates Simplifi's approach to point-of-care technology, particularly its work to rethink traditional Workstations on Wheels (WoWs) as configurable, clinician-centered platforms designed around how healthcare teams actually work.

Rethinking the Familiar

Workstations on Wheels might not be the first technology that comes to mind when discussing healthcare innovation. They're familiar fixtures in hospitals, helping clinicians access electronic health records, document care, administer medications and perform countless other daily tasks.

Yet hospitals often treat these workstations as equipment purchases rather than an integral part of clinical workflows.

Simplifi Medical is challenging that approach by asking different questions: How do clinicians actually use these workstations? What creates unnecessary friction in their daily routines? And how can technology better support their needs?

As Keith Washington, Simplifi Medical's chief product officer and Beyond the Blueprint co-host, explains:

"Healthcare technology should adapt to clinicians, not the other way around."

Innovation Starts With Collaboration

Through its consultative approach, known as the Simplifi Experience, the company works directly with health systems to understand clinical workflows, technology requirements and operational challenges before developing workstation configurations.

In one collaboration with a large multi-hospital health system, Simplifi brought together clinicians, IT professionals, ergonomics specialists and operational leaders to develop an adaptable, enterprise-standard workstation platform shaped by real-world feedback.

It's the kind of collaboration we champion on Beyond the Blueprint: breaking down silos, involving the people closest to the work and recognizing that successful technology adoption requires more than a purchase order.

A Shared Commitment to Making Healthcare Work Better

At Beyond the Blueprint, we bring together healthcare leaders, clinicians and innovators to explore what it takes to move from strategy to execution. We challenge conventional thinking, share practical experiences and celebrate organizations finding better ways to deliver care.

Simplifi Medical's Gold Merit Award reflects that same philosophy: Innovation should be measured not simply by what technology can do, but by how well it supports the people who depend on it.

Congratulations to the entire Simplifi Medical team on this well-deserved recognition! We're proud to have Simplifi as a longtime sponsor and to share a commitment to making healthcare work better.
